CRJ402 – Comparative Criminal Justice
Unit 6 Assignment Forum: China’s Dual Policing System
Due Dates:
• By Friday of Unit 6, 11:59 p.m. EST – Post assignment to the forum. • By Sunday of Unit 6, 11:59 p.m. EST – Respond to a classmate.
Points: 100 Overview: In this assignment forum, you will create a presentation that exhibits what you have learned about the dual policing system of China and share it with the class. Instructions: China has two kinds of justice systems that are designed to complement one another. One is the formal system that the government established. The other system is informal in that it is essentially part of the country’s cultural tradition, and its roots can be traced back to ancient times. Although the government did not create the informal system, it influences and controls how it operates today. The informal system is reflected in communities taking an active role in assuring that social order is maintained locally and in citizens resolving disputes through mediation rather than relying on courts. Using whatever tool you’d like (PowerPoint, Word, Prezi, video, etc.), design a presentation that includes the following information:
• The details and structure of the Chinese dual policing system.
• Benefits vs. challenges of this type of system.
• How does this system address the issues in China’s criminal justice system?
Respond to at least one (1) classmate’s assignment with the following:
• Discuss something new you have learned from their presentation. • Be sure to elaborate on your classmate’s ideas with further comment or observation, present a
relevant new idea or viewpoint for consideration, and raise a question or politely offer an alternative perspective.
